We do it with your help.

Many people are under the misconception that because Cats Protection is a national Charity, we are paid for what we do. This isn't the case. We are all volunteers, who give our time, energy and devotion to a cause we value, the welfare of Cats.
But our resources are not limitless, and there are many misconceptions amongst those who call us for help.
Many think we have a Shelter - We do not.
Many think money isn't a problem - It is.
Many think we don't care when we say, we cant take your Cat right now - We do care.
Many think we have plenty of volunteers - We do not.
But what we do have, is plenty of Cats, either in our care or waiting to come in.
It seldom happens that anyone is refused help of some kind, even if we cannot take in a Cat, we will ensure its neutered, and try and put you in touch with other Rescues unless you are prepared to wait.
A popular misconception is that every Cat who comes into CP care is taken by a fosterer and placed in their homes to mingle and live with our families. I wish this
could be the case, but with between 10 and 30 applicants daily, and for reasons of cross infections, it is just not possible. This misconception occurs because people hear me say daily, that we do not have a Shelter, we take them into our homes. And we do take them into our homes, but not to mingle with our own animals. We have only one fosterer who takes adult cats, and to accommodate them, Cats Protection has erected a line of outdoor pens, each one, suitable for up to three cats, who get on, from one household. Our kitten carers work differently, they usually have a spare room where they can take one litter at a time.
As a branch of Cats Protection we have strict guidelines over the areas we cover, so I am afraid we cannot help you if you live in outlying areas. But I have supplied links to other branches where possible on our LINKS page. Click the purple cat to visit our Links page.
As we have very few volunteers, Im afraid if you live in the West side of the city and need assistance with a feral colony, we wont be able to do the work for you. We can however, lend you a trap, if we have one available, and arrange for a Vet to neuter, as well as pay for the neutering, you will have to arrange transportation yourselves. We do apologise for this, but without volunteers we can do little else.
If you live in the Hexham area, we can also arrange assistance, but as above, we wont be able to trap for you, nor transport the cats to the Vet.
Below is a map which shows the area we cover, although I have to admit its not absolutley exact, but it does show that we do not cover anywhere across the river.
