We at Cats Protection Newcastle use a vaccine produced by a company called Fort Dodge. The actual vaccine is called Fervaxyn Pentofel'
Fort Dodge Animal Health's Fevaxyn combination inactivated vaccines are recommended for the vaccination of healthy cats as an aid in the prevention of important feline diseases. Fevaxyn® Pentofel®, our leading feline vaccine, provides protection against feline rhinotracheitis, feline panleukopenia, feline calicivirus, feline pneumonitis (Chlamydophila psittaci), and feline leukaemia. Other available vaccines are: Fevaxyn® iCHPChlam, Fevaxyn® iCHP and Fevaxyn® FeLv.
Our kittens are vaccinated at 9 weeks and again at 12 weeks. Its important that there is a 3 week break between vaccinations, but there are only a day or two leeway in this, so dont delay too long on that second vaccination.
Its the same with adult cats. Vaccine no 2 is administered 3 weeks after vaccine 1
Sometimes a cat is chosen before its 2nd vaccination is due. What we then do is to give you a voucher, which if produced at one of the named Vets will ensure your cat/kitten receives its 2nd vaccination free of charge to you.
It is vital that types of vaccines are not mixed ! So YOU MUST ensure that the voucher is handed over to ensure that the same brand of vaccine is used. To mix vaccines can make you cat/kitten ill.
Also its important that you get this vaccination done at the appointed time, failure to do so, will mean the course has to be started again, and Cats Protection WILL NOT pay for that.
