Hello,

I wonder if anybody can give me some advice on how I can keep my Georgina safe in the garden, without her jumping over our fence (which is about 5 ft high) in the neighbours' gardens and wondering off. One of the neighbours has a dog in the garden from time to time, and this worries me so much. I have done an internet search, and I came to the conclusion that the two best options could be: either to attach angled brackets to the existing fence, to raise the height up to 8ft and attach a net all around (like the Purrfect Fence system) or to use the Loc8tor Plus, which, by attaching a tag to the collar, allows to set a safety zone alert and also to track her if she gets missing. Does anyone have any experience on using either system? Can you please give me any feedback or alternative suggestions?

Thank you very much.

I have a system where there are brackets around my garden fence, facing inwards, and on top of that is mesh.

So its like a right angle at the top, the cats cannot climb around that, and it keeps mine safe and sound, without costing a fortune

Hello Chris,

thank you so much about your reply. Can you please give me more information? Where did you buy the bracket? I search them in B&Q, Jewsons etc but I could not find them. How high do they have to be? The FAB website recommends at least 6ft high enclosure, but when I spoke to a nurse at a vet practice she said cats can jump up to 8-10 ft. Also, how much do yours project inwards the garden? The FAB website recommends half a meter, but it seems a lot to me. Is it necessary to get planning permissions? Can they be attached to concrete fence posts? Perhaps can I give you a ring to get all these details?

Thank you very much.

Kind regards,

Alessandra

I hope you managed to get a hold of the Joiner whose name I gave you Alessandra...

this system works, and works well, without costing an arm and a leg.

Hello Chris,

apologies for my late reply, but life has been hectic.

Yes, I did contact the joiner you recommended - thank you very much.

Unfortunately, because of the owrgrown climbing plants over our existing fence and because of the high trees in the garden, the preparatory work for the joiner to install the specialist additional fence would have required an extensive and very expensive modification of the garden layout. So, we decided to try the cheapest and quicker option of buying the Locator, which has also an alert zone which triggers the alarm if our cat goes to far. It has worked very well so far, and it has been very valuable to alert us whenever Georgina climbs the fence and wonders in the neighbours garden, so that we can go and get her back. It is also very useful to locate her in our overgrown garden  when it gets dark in the evening, and she hides under a bush, so we can take her in safely at night. It is not a perfect system, as sometimes it gives a false alert, but it never failed to alert us when she wanders off. Overall it is for us a good alternative to the specialist fence.

Best wishes,

Alessandra
