If you have a stray and it needs to be neutered, it cannot be done, unless an advert informing the public has been displayed for a minimum of 14 days. This ad needs to be placed in a public place, such as a Post Office, Newsagent, or even a local newspaper ( many will display an ad for one night free of charge) but if you do take up the newspaper offer, remember to place the ad again, the following week. By doing this you are trying to locate an owner, and giving them a chance to reclaim their property prior to what could be classed as mutilation of property. Also it is advisable to take the cat to Vet and ask them to check if the cat has a microchip, normally this is done free of any charges, but do check with the vet first. Often a vet will give you a guide as to its age, health and sex at that time. CP will fund the cost of neutering providing you contact us before making an appointment, but after placing the ad, and having the cat checked for a chip. With a female cat neutering is not evident unless there is still a shaved area on her side, or kittens around which you are SURE are hers, we recently had a cat pointed out to us, as the mother of some kittens we took into care, as she had been seen feeding them. As the only way of telling for sure is intrusive surgery, it was found that she had already had a womb removal operation, and what was mistaken for feeding was actually a feral cat, nursing another cats kittens by allowing them to suckle for comfort, even though she had no milk to feed them. | |
