Feral Cats Need Food

Each year Cats Protection Newcastle, become responsible for the maintenance of more and more feral cat colonies.
By maintenance we man, supplying food, paying Veterinary costs, which keep getting higher and higher.
You can help by donating cans of cat food, Whether that be one can or a dozen, each and every one helps a feral to survive a bit longer.
On receiving a report of feral cats, we do our best to neuter the colony, and by doing that, we take responsibility for the colony.
The average lifespan of a feral cat, if not neutered is 3 years. We have recently witnessed a feral, aged 19 years die of old age, after having a perfectly happy life.
Of course we know feral cats have a job to do, their presence reduces mouse populations and deters rats.  Unhealthy cats dont work.
If you can assist, please drop off your cans at our shop in Wallsend. ( 164-166 High Street East) or contact me and I will arrange collection.
If you would prefer to make a cash donation, you can send a postal order or cheque to our shop address at the bottom of this page, or you can make your donation through PayPal by clicking the donation button on the left sidebar.
Thank you on their behalf.

We Need A Campervan

As you are all aware the Pet Road Shows have done a wonderful job in getting people's cats and dogs neutered and microchipped, as well as being wormed and flea treated, all free of charge, but does it go far enough?

When we did the first one in Meadowell, North Shields, the RSPCA Inspector for that area, told me that the number of reported cruelty case calls went down from an average of 53 a month to just 4. Now considering the fact that the North East of England comes top in the Nations animal cruelty areas, every single year, this is what I call a positive result. However, those case calls are now creeping back up again, and long before we are able to hold another event in that area, those case calls will be back up over 50 a month again.

This is highly disappointing, but as the total costs of such a big event are so very high, we just cannot repeat them in one area as often as we would

like to.

So I put my thinking cap on and tried to come up with a way of 'topping up' the message to these areas, without the daunting costs of hall hire etc.

The answer was obvious, become mobile !

So the idea of buying a Motorhome or Campervan, started to inspire me.

Being mobile would mean that we could spread the word, by parking up in Library car parks, Supermarkets, Schools, the list goes on and on. Then we could offer advice and support to Pet owners, and even arrange microchipping events, as we would have washing facilities onboard the van, on days when RSPCA or Pawz for Thought could join us.

I could visualise exactly what I was looking for, and I could see that not only would it help in the practical ways mentioned, but it would raise the profile of Cats Protection in the area, and bring new, much needed, volunteers to keep the branch going.
So now we need your help to make this dream come true. If you would like to help us you can donate towards the costs by using the PayPal button on this page, or send a donation direct to our shop ( address on the Home page of this site).

The photos used on this page are of the two new vehicles owned by Cats Protection HQ which are used mainly in the South of England. I am sure you will agree a vehicle like this would help spread the word of Cats Protection here in the North where it is sorely needed.

A Poem to Consider

Little Black Cat

I once was thought lucky, but now thats 'old hat'

I'm not in the fashion, I'm a little black cat

The visitors come and they pass with a smile

I'm young and I'm friendly, but I've been here a while.

"We wanted a tabby" I've heard them request

I know I'm not tabby but I'm doing my best !

I've tried rolling over and waving my paw,

But they just take a glance and pass by my door.

"Maybe a ginger? That one looks nice",

But a little black cat? Well no one looks twice

If you come to the Centre, just watch and see -

They'll choose all the others, but no one picks me.
